Styling is Everything!

Styling outfits for photo sessions is important because it can help create a cohesive look, highlight personalities, and add visual interest

Cohesive look

Coordinating outfits with complementary colors, patterns, and textures can create a visual harmony that ties the group together.

Personality and individuality

Incorporating elements that reflect each person's unique style can help their personalities shine through.

Visual interest

Layering clothes with accent colors and unique fabrics can add visual interest and angles that slim the body.

Mood, theme, or message

Clothing, accessories, and overall styling choices can communicate a specific mood, theme, or message to the viewers.

Variety

Changing clothes during a session can add variety to the resulting images, making them more suitable for displaying in different locations. I provide multi-outfit packages that includes time to change that does not interfere with your shooting time. I also provide a convenient and private portable changing room so you can change easily and comfortably.

Location

Dressing appropriately for the location can help ensure that the entire image presents a feeling of togetherness.

Tips for Styling!

Ideal Colors

Choose colors that work with your skin tone and setting. In the spring and summer pastels and vibrant colors are great colors. In the fall, stick with the neutrals - burnt orange, army green, beige/tans/browns. Be careful with Whites, cream and off whites typically work best.

Stay away From

  • Everyone wearing the same color, pattern, or type of clothing. The days of everyone wearing all checkered plaid is no longer!
  • Distracting or Multiple Patterns. If one person in the group wears a pattern, style the others in a solid color that coincides with that pattern.
  • Mamas to be: This is your one time to look plump and feel good about it! The tighter and longer the dress the better!
  • Guys: Try to stay away from tennis shoes or crocs.
  • Ladies: Stay away from sandals starting Oct 1, close toe shoes work best - cowboy boots, ankle boots, and knee high boots are a great option for Fall and Winter.
